Ohio Severe Weather Awareness Week
It’s easy to plan ahead for an event, or for a vacation, but how easy might it be to plan ahead for severe weather? It’s nothing but routine to get caught up in everyday activities, running errands and taking care of a family, working a full-time job, getting the right amount of exercise your body needs. But simple planning and thorough evaluation in other aspects, such as your home, can make the spring and summer months the relaxing, fresh start that you could be selling yourself short on.
You might be thinking that you’re already as prepared as you can be when it comes to spring and summer storms. They happen so frequently that it’s exciting and basically second nature to experience one. And some storms and natural disasters are way less severe than others. But the ones that are the most severe are the ones that are more difficult to prepare for. If you’re not properly prepared, you could face expensive damage costs, lost or destroyed possessions, and long-term effects to your home.
Weather related disasters in the US lead to around $15 billion in damage per year. Knowing a reliable, 24/7 disaster restoration company Like Trident Restoration means your mind can be put at ease if the worst happens to your home or valuables. Our team here at Trident Restoration can help turn these stressful scenarios into a reassuring process. This week is “Ohio Severe Weather Awareness Week”. Every year during the week of March 21 to March 27, the National Weather Service updates the public on the proper protocols to practice and signs to look for during the event of a storm or natural disaster of specific sorts. Among these common disasters are Flash Floods, Tornadoes, Lightning, and Thunderstorms.
Flash Flood
A flash flood is a sudden, local flood, exhibiting a rapid rise of water, typically due to heavy rain that generally develops within six hours of the immediate cause.
What to expect:
- Power outages
- Collapsed ceilings
- Debris and rocks in water; jamming sewers and breaking windows
- Floor drains backing up and overflowing into your basement from overloaded drain systems
Tornado
A tornado is a funnel shaped vortex extending from the base of a thunderstorm to the ground, causing extremely high winds, capable of destructing everything in its path
What to expect:
- Uprooted trees and downed power lines
- Structural weaknesses and imbalances
- Release of hazardous materials (natural gas, medical waste, gasoline, chemicals, sewage)
- Broken water lines
- Roof and siding damage
- Broken windows and doors
- Flooding from wind driven rain
Lightning
Lightning isa flash of light in the sky caused by an electric discharge between clouds
What to expect:
- Power outages
- Fire
- Damages to your home’s chimneys and electrical components
Thunderstorms
A thunderstorm isa weather disturbance that is almost always associated with rain, thunder, lightning, and high winds and capable of producing hail.

What can Trident Restoration do?
In the event of water damage, (from flooding, broken pipes) Trident Restoration has water mitigation and mold remediation professionals that use industrial strength pumps to extract thousands of gallons of water from your space. Once the water is removed, dehumidifiers and air movers are used to dry out the space. The air mover helps to literally move the air around so that it can’t stay dormant and create mold or bacterial growth. The dehumidifier works at an incredible rate to pull the moisture out of the air, thus, removing any possibility of mold or bacterial growth. Removal of any wet drywall, wet carpet, wet carpet pad, wet flooring, or any porous materials is a priority. We use a drying technique that salvages most of your possessions and brings them back (or close) to the state they originally were in. This can range anywhere from important/legal documents to furniture. Any flooring, paint, or trim that was damaged is able to be replaced with like kind and quality.
- An extremely important rule of thumb is to not use your basement as storage. If you must use your basement, keep things stored in plastic totes, rather than cardboard boxes., and keep them stored off the basement floor. Wooden pallets or storage shelves are good alternatives.
In the event of wind or storm damage, (from tornado, thunderstorms, hail) Trident Restoration can fix problems anywhere from shingle and roof damage, to broken windows from golf-ball sized hail. During high winds or a tornado, your roof and siding are both extremely vulnerable. Even though they act as the outside shell to your home, the perfect gust of wind can rip them off their frame, leaving your home open to the extremities. Sometimes, in the most extreme cases, a tree or power line can fall onto your house, causing an array of issues. To help restore your home, we would board up any broken windows, replace siding and roofing, and fix any damages to drywall and insulation
In the event of a fire (from lightning, power lines, gas leaks) If you’ve experienced a fire or suspected fire, a gas leak, or downed powerlines, call 911 immediately. Your local fire department will inspect your property or extinguish a fire properly. In the event you have suffered a fire loss, wait for your fire department to identify your home as safe to enter, then call Trident Restoration at 330-409-8000. Our experienced staff will walk you through the insurance claim process. With careful and thorough techniques, we can help clean, replace, or restore your home and your valuables to a pre-loss condition.
Inevitably, accidents are bound to happen. But, with knowing your resources, and with a little bit of proper planning, things won’t be as daunting when that time comes. Whether it’s storm damage, water damage, mold damage, or fire damage, Trident Restoration is just a phone call away from answering all of your seasonal disaster questions and guiding you through the proper methods of home restoration.
